Gold Coast Festival + BRS Winter Changes

Saturday Sessions (That is plural)

As Renae and myself will be overseas for the next 3 weekends, let's pre-schedule Saturday Sessions. 

When: Saturday 23rd June
            Saturday 30th June
            Saturday 7th July

Time6:30am - 8:00am [NOTE later start]

Where: Meet at the steps near South Beach Social (Previously Southbank Surf Club), Southbank

What:  Too many options to list.  Here are some suggestions: 1.5hr long run, long run with parkrun on the end, parkrun, etc etc.

Cost: Free

Please note as per the new winter model, there will be no refreshments after the session.  There are, however many options for breakfast and a refreshing coffee after.

Also please note, Saturday 30th June is Gold Coast Marathon weekend, so running partners may be limited.  Please utilise social media correspondence between yourselves to organise.

Gold Coast Marathon Festival

Next weekend Saturday and Sunday 30th and 1st will see a handful of BRSers competing in varying distances at the Gold Coast Marathon Festival.

The BRS Tent will be there as usual, however it will be getting set up early Saturday morning, so expect it to be down in Mitchell Park somewhere, north of Smith Street Motorway intersection.  This location may be further away from the start line, but will give everyone a great view of the runners as they head for home.

After 11 years of Running the GC Marathon festival, we are both guttered we won't be there running and supporting.  

Good luck to everyone sporting the Blue and White of BRS.  And I hope you have a fabulous after party. 

Winter Running Model

As announced at our dinner last week, we are trialing a new training model for the winter months.

Starting week 25th June there will be training on Wednesday evenings and Saturday Mornings only.

Wednesday evenings will be a usual start of 6pm - 7pm, meeting in same spot and The Ship Inn, Southbank.  These sessions will be an "All In" session, meaning we want everyone there as a show of force, community, and for you to share the run with as many BRSers as possible!  Those who turn up in a BRS uniform will only have to pay $5 for training as an incentive instead of $6. New to the squad? Don't have a BRS Uniform yet? shoot us an email to get a uniform happening for you info@brisbanerunsquad.com.au .

Saturday Mornings will be starting from 6:30 am, giving the sun (and ourselves) a little extra time to get out of bed.  We will be using Southbank as a meeting point twice a month, some trail running once a month and a local Parkruns once a month. 

At the end of winter we will re-evaluate and get feedback from our members.


Beach to Brother Assault

Upon Renae and my return from overseas (yes I dropped it again), keep your eye out for  a lead up program preparing you for the Beach to Brother running festival at the end of September.  The trail runs will be aimed at the training.  I have my eye on some fun looking events we can use as lead up events.

Lots to look forward to, none more than my trip (Boom, again)

Dan will be there to co-ordinate.  Please not there will not be any refreshments afterwards.  Refresh with COFFEE.

Monday Night Dinner Reminder

What: 
Let's get together for some food and drinks to celebrate everything BRS. There have been many a birthday to catch up on, many an achievement gained and much more.

Joining us at dinner will be Darren Henry, CEO of Planwell - Workplace design Specialists, www.plan-well.com.au. You may remember Darren from our on tour trips organised by Fit For Travel. 

Darren will have a talk to us about a new event called Running CEO's www.runningceos.com.au. Darren is forming a team to raise money for Beyond DV, www.beyonddv.org.au, a charity supporting survivors of domestic violence.

So come along and have a catch up, and get on board with a great event raising money for a great charity.

Saturday Session & Reminder to enter Beach to Brother

Saturday Session

When: Saturday 9th June

Where: Meet in Captain Burke Park

Time: 6:30am - 8am

What: Long Run, Short Run, Long Walk, Short Walk, need i go on?  The choice is yours, plenty of routes leaving from this location.
Renae and I are going to be on the Kangaroo Point Cliff stairs again if anyone wants to join the fun.

Cost: $2

Breaky at Story Bridge Hotel.  We haven't been back there for a while, and I remember the breakfast being really good there.

Entries are now open for our next BRS on Tour Event, The Beach to Brother Running Festival.

Go to www.beachtobrother.com.au and select Registration under Entry menu.  From there you can select the distance you want to compete in and select if you want to be part of a team.  Selecting 'create a team' only applies if you are going to compete in the marathon relay, otherwise select 'I'm a participant'.  Fill in your details, choose your event again.

I have been hearing stories of the finish mountain, Mt Brother.  I have knocked up a very rough elevation map of the course using highly technical computer skills probably way above a normal persons comprehension to give you an idea of the terrain.

Read it and weep.  It's going to be challenging.  But that is what it is all about right?

Where: Meet in the UQ Athletics Track car park, Sir William McGregor Drive, St Lucia

Time: 6am - 7:30am

What: Options. 6am go for a long warm up/long run, then St Lucia Park Run which leaves from very near the meeting point.

Cost: free

Breaky at St Lucy's Cafe  at the Tennis courts afterwards. 

Dan will be there to direct traffic.

It's new and it sounds awesome!!

Coops is in and keen to build a team! 

So the gist is, you will run anything between 9km and 75km based on your speed, endurance, and ticker 

The circuit is a 1.5km at Nerang, Hope Street. 

You get to run the circuit at least 6 times = 9km.......THEN

After that, you keep doing laps and each lap you are deemed SAFE or CUT. 
Generally, it will be the last 2 people cut each lap. 

There are rests and breaks built in, around 10km, 30km 45km etc. Toilet and food stops!

Sounds like a great event....so who is in?? 

JOIN OUR TEAM!!!
There will be a prize for the winning team/club/group. The more people in your group, the better chance you'll have - the winning team will be the team with the most amount of laps completed between the entire group.

The Cut Ultra Marathon will be a full-day party. Think Bands, Beers, and Cheering!

It's going to be a long day of running for some, a long day of cheering for others, and a long day of fun for everyone. Fun you say? Or did we say? Either way, we're talking food, music, picnics, drinks, dancing, maybe even a short arvo siesta? Whether you plan on only running 10km, or you reckon you’re hitting the ultra and beyond, block out the full day for this one - and block out the day for your family and friends too, ‘cause this event is as much about the party as it is the run!

Weekend & Running Festival Reminder!

Saturday Run

With BRSers at Warwick, travelling around Europe, Japan, jet setting down south, moving house, cross training nursing injuries....it doesn't leave many for our Saturday Session. 

For those interested, Matt and I will be hitting the Kangaroo Point Stairs again, but feel free to meet for a run and of course a coffee after!

When: Saturday 19th May

Where: Meet Southbank Social Stairs

Time: 6:30am  ( NOTE THE LATER TIME!!!)  - 8am

What: what ever you want....just move! Matt and I will be walking to Kangaroo Point stairs, then 1.5 hours and walking back. Join us, do your own run, walk, hit parkrun.....the choices are endless

Those not travelling around the world, a Northside fun run will be great for something different - 2km, 5km, 10km, 21km

Saturday Session, Hitting the Stairs, & THE CUT!

Stairs anyone??

In preparation for hiking in South America, Matt and I are turning some of our Saturday Session runs into 1.5 hours of Kangaroo Point Stairs and Hills. We welcome anybody who wants to do the stairs too. Pop on a pack or come as you are!

Join us this Saturday for some stair hiking as above or a run! Or a run/walk  Or a walk

What: Options. Run down to New Farm or Southbank for a parkrun, a longer run, maybe the UQ circuit, or whatever gets you moving!

Saturday, Cross Country and Upcoming Events

This Saturday

A few options for you! 

PM RUN - have a sleep in and still run! We have the run for you. 

Join us at the QLD Running Cross Country Event at Mitchelton! 
We have set up an event on Facebook, but here are the details:  

A cross country event, with LOTS of choice! 500m to 8km run and a 500m-800m walk event too. 

Bring the kids!! Bring the dog for the walk! 

All events are timed and results are usually available on the Results page by the following Tuesday.

A Fitness Fun Walk is also held each competition afternoon. This walk covers the course for the shortest event - 500m (Program 1) Walk, hop, skip or jump your way around the course. Bring your dog or even read a book. Please note: fitness fun walk is not timed. 

ENTRY - Simply complete the weekly entry form available here https://queenslandrunning.com.au/#/weekly-comp/entry-process and email it to them by Friday or Saturday morning at the latest.

Saturday Session and Final Gold Coast Reminder

Saturday Session

When: Saturday 28th April

Time: 6am - 7:30am 

Where Hanlon Park, Junction St, Stones Corner.  Meet at the northern end of the park near Fern St.  This way can move straight into Parkrun.

What: whatever you like (as long as it involves running!) 8-10km warm up then parkrun, a 1.5 hour run, 5km parkrun! choices are endless.

Cost : $2

Followed by Breaky and coffee!!!!  I will leave it up to the locals to decide on the best place for breakfast.  But, there are many option very close. 

Please Note:  there will be no coaches Saturday morning.  So get on BRS messenger and talk to each other about start times etc.
